You know those beautiful summer days… where you have just a little bit too much fun in the sun? A long day in the sun at the beach will do that! But hey, we need all the vitamin D we can get here in Canada, so we’ll take it!
This simple recipe is a wonderful alternative to the aloe vera gel that you’re probably familiar with from shoppers drug mart or the IDA. I put the app “Think Dirty” to the test the other day, and scanned all the aloe products at a local pharmacy. *If you aren’t familiar with Think Dirty, pull out your smart phone and download it now!*
Toxic Preservatives in conventional Aloe Vera
Aloe vera gel is one of those products that by all means looks “green” and totally clean. I was so surprised to find that most of the aloe after sun gel products I found, rated a 9 or 10 on the Dirty Meter. I found additives like “diazolidinyl urea” (which allows chemicals to penetrate deeper into the skin, and is added as a preservative. Think Dirty says it may even trigger eczema! eeeek!), as well as “fragrance” (often a combination of ingredients added to products to mask odors or add a pleasant scent – these synthetics are often hormone disruptors and allergens), and “methylparaben” – another fragrance that mimics estrogen and can disrupt hormones.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want ANY of that on my skin, or in my body. What I like to do instead, is purchase food grade aloe vera gel from the health food store. This way you know it’s 100% aloe vera, and there are NO scary additives and preservatives.
Pure Essential Oils
Always make sure you’re using the most pure essential oils… After all, anything that goes on your body, should be good enough to go in your body. This is why I choose to use and share Young Living essential oils, over any other oil company – they are the most pure essential oils in the world! Read more about their Seed to Seal quality here.
