Everyday Essential Oils

It’s a really hard to choose what my #1 favourite essential oil would be, but I want to share with you how I use my favourite essential oils on a daily basis. These are the oils that I absolutely can’t be without, and bring with me everywhere! They are my “essential” essentials! Even if I’m just going out for a couple hours, I usually have at least 3 of these in my bag. You never know what might happen, or who you might see that could benefit from a couple drops of lavender. Apparently my bag smells like a cloud of essential oils, so that is a bonus. If you spend any time with my lately, you’ll probably catch me saying “there’s an oil for that” at least once!

Lavender

If you’re familiar at all with essential oils, then you probably have tried lavender. Lavender acts as a nervine and calmative, which enhances relaxation and helps to relieve headaches. It also helps to relieve joint and muscle pain associated with sprains, strains, and rheumatoid arthritis, can reduce symptoms of cough and cold. Lavender is the first thing I reach for in my essential oils first aid kit. You can apply it neat (undiluted) to cuts, bruises, burns, and minor skin irritations. Remember – a little drop goes a long way. One of the ways I use it everyday is in my Radiant Facial Elixir, which I use every morning and evening. I also like to have in a roll-on bottle with peppermint EO and jojoba oil. I use this for headaches, or to create a relaxing aroma when I’m on the go.

ValorIMG_1050

Valor is a blend made by Young Living that includes spr
uce, blue tansy, and frankincense essential oils. It is is an empowering blend that promotes feelings of strength, courage, and protection. Valor is also believed to support energy alignment. This is my all time favourite blend made by Young Living. It brings me to a very calm state when I am feeling stressed and anxious. I can’t say enough good things about this blend, and I know my friends enjoy it just as much as I do. I like to put a roller attachment right on my bottle of valor so that I can bring it with me and easily put it on my wrists and chest. A great way to start your day is to place one drop of valor on the inside of your left wrist. Then hold the inside of your right wrist to your left wrist and breathe for a few minutes. This helps create balance and calm the mind.

Raven

Raven is a cleansing blend of peppermint, eucalyptus radiata, and other essential oils. When applied topically, Raven is soothing to the chest and throat. Raven is one of the essential oils that initially got my interested in Young Living. I was having trouble with respiratory congestion on a seasonal basis for the past couple of years. I began searching for a natural alternative to help me manage this, and found out about Young Living essential oils. Other than Raven, I also use a blend called RC (respiratory congestion), and Breathe Again to help with this. I use a roll-on attachment to apply these oils directly to my chest and neck.

Jade Lemon

Jade Lemon oil is released only after the fruit is picked, giving it a richer and more fragrant aroma. It has a unique lemon-lime scent that invigorates and uplifts the senses. This oil is another all time favourite because it is so versatile. I like to add a couple of drops to my water, salad dressing, Ningxia Red, smoothies…. the list goes on. I add 2 drops to the water bottle I bring with me when I’m out of the house because it is so energizing and refreshing to sip throughout the day. The Young Living Canada Natural Remedies Guide suggests that it can help to reduce the symptoms of cough or cold. Other suggestions from the Young Living website on how to use Jade Lemon:

  • Diffuse to uplift and stimulate the mind and body.
  • Add 10–15 drops to Young Living lotions and shampoos to energize the spirit.
  • Combine with sea salt, V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex, Ylang Ylang, Peppermint, and Lavender to exfoliate the skin.
  • Use as a cleanser to remove stickiness or grease from surfaces; remove gum from hair; or remove crayon or permanent marker from walls.
  • Mix with Citronella essential oil for a pleasant, citrus-scented insect repellant.
  • Add to dishwashing detergent for a spot-free rinse and to help clean your dishwasher.
  • Use 8–10 drops with water in a spray bottle to freshen the air.

Peppermint

One of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs, peppermint essential oil has a fresh, energizing aroma. You are probably very famiiar with peppermint – most of us experience it on a daily basis in our toothpaste, gum, and tea. I have to say tIMG_1121hough, I had never truly experienced real peppermint until I tried Young Living peppermint essential oil. I enjoy adding one drop of peppermint to my peppermint tea. Just one drop gives your tea an extra kick, and really helps to clear your head. Peppermint is a nervine and calmative, just like lavender. It can help with digestive discomfort,  and muscle & joint pain. I make my own homemade toothpaste that has peppermint EO in it, and I also enjoy diffusing peppermint with lavender when I have a headache.

Sacred Frankincense

Sacred frakincense essential oil comes from Boswellia sacra tree resin that is wild harvested and steam distilled at the Young Living farm in Salalah, Oman. This oil is ideal for those who wish to take their spiritual journey and meditation experiences to a higher level. I like to diffuse sacred frankincense during my yoga practice, or at bedtime. It acts as a nervine and calmative, and can be used for minor skin irritations, cuts, bruises, and burns. It can also help reduce symptoms of cough or cold. Alongside lavender and myrrh, sacred frankincense is my favourite thing to put on my body for healthy, radiant skin.

13226643_10153796100963621_866404460269445328_nI could go on and on about many other favourites, but the point of this was to give you an idea of my everyday essential oils routine, and give ideas on how you might like to incorporate essential oils into your life.

I will leave you with this photo of my freshly planted succulents and wire ivey. It was a rainy weekend here, and all of the leaves are finally coming out. Our apple trees are turning white and pink with blossoms. I felt like I also needed some green plants indoors, so I took a trip to the greenhouse and created my own little succulent garden. These little creatures are so endearing and make my heart happy.

    1. Great! Yes I’ve tried the dentarome ultra and really liked it. I haven’t tried the aromabright yet! I also started making my own with activated charcoal, baking soda, coconut oil, and peppermint oil! It works really well for me.
